Pretty incredible right? I'll bet you're already imagining how it tastes, right? I only had one piece, since I was working on my fried chicken and biscuits. With white gravy. Not exactly talking about a kosher paradise on the table.
Hopefully, if my dad is reading this, he's not shaking his head. Pretty sure he won't be showing it to mom. See, I grew up kosher. And they still are. But I'm not. And they don't seem to begrudge me that.
Now we didn't grow up poor - I was incredibly lucky to have a lot of things other kids didn't - but we didn't have a ton of extra cash, so we didn't eat fancy.
There are a few things that we grew up eating that I absolutely hated: fish sticks and Franks and Beans. Few things stick in my memory like those frozen fish sticks. No pun intended. To this day I won't eat them again. Same goes with the other dish.
Now, tuna fish was a staple in my house too. Sandwiches, casseroles and other random stuff. Interestingly, I still love the stuff. Ate it the other day, in fact. Yeah, I'm not one of those guys who rejects everything from his past.
So... I'm not 100% certain where we'll go from here. You see, tomorrow, I'm smoking pork sausage. Last night, we had salmon. And the Kosher deli around the corner is a staple in my current home, because I'm a snob about "the right way" to make a turkey or roast beef on rye. (Russian dressing and Cole slaw. Gotta be kosher)
I suppose, for the moment, sometimes, I'm going to talk about food I'm making. Sometimes I'm going to talk about food I'm eating - ordering it in or eating out. Sometimes you'll get stories from the past, with some mix of food, music and family. And, since I'm a huge fan boy of my wife's, I'll probably talk about her a lot. And you'll probably get a whole lot of the why.
So, hey, thanks for reading.
